Langenburg

On a mountain spur high above the river Jagst lies the city residency of Langenburg. The mighty castle has a history that dates back to the 12. century and was renovated to be a castle in renaissance style in the 17. century. For centuries the castle is owned by the princely family of Hohenlohe-Langenburg. Various exhibition rooms display the lifestyle of former times. Also worth visiting are the castle’s chapel and the magnificent renaissance courtyard and the baroque styled garden.
The old town with it’s timbered houses, the city wall and the city gate is inviting you to stroll and dream. The native land museum located at Hintere Gasse will give you an overview over the regional flora and faune. It also shows an original Cobbler’s shop.
The club of history and culture had a complete forge for hoofs and dares restored. It is older than the process of electrification. Viewings and demonstrations can be arranged with advanced booking. The town church, built 1499 as “chapel of sacred blood”, is opened for visitors all season.
Archaeological discoveries in the district of Unterregenbach imply a former residence and a convent or diocese of the 10. century. Findings and documentation of the former building of Unterregenbach and the exposed crypt can be viewed.
The guided tours through the city are offered frequently all season long and present the town’s history exuberantly. Interesting recreational facilities like the castle’s forest climbing park, the public pool and sauna, the mini golf course and tennis court provide variety for all ages. Hiking guides and bicycling guides will show you the idyllic and undisturbed nature of the Jagst valley and will lead you to romantic villages like Bächlingen and Unterregenbach. A special treat are the frequently offered herb- and fairytale hikes. Enjoy the end of an eventful day at a cosy restaurant or café.
