The city of Krautheim is a small metropolis with various functions, site of a school center with a special needs school, an elementary school, as well as a high school. Soon, the school centre will add a school for children with severe physical disabilities, the Andreas-Fröhlich-School.
Krautheim is well-connected due to a bus loop with seven different bus lines. Krautheim is site of one of three weirs located in the district of Hohenlohe. It is also a great place for shopping. In Krautheim’s hamlet Klepsau lies an area of approximately 38 hectares where high quality red wines and white wines are grown. They are aged in the cellars Beckstein. Closer to the county seat Künzelsau you can find a big summer camp site in the hamlet Oberginsbach.
Krautheim is the seat of the Association Selbsthilfe Körperbehinderter e.V., a residential centre and a workshop for the disabled. In total there are about 1,300 workplaces in Krautheim. The city is the seat of the wastewater association of central Jagst valley with sewage treatment plants for Ailringen (subsite of Mulfingen), the overall community as well as Dörzbach Klepsau, Krautheim with Ginsbachtal and Gommersdorf. In addition, Krautheim is site of the association of water supply Jagst valley group, which now supplies the town of Dörzbach, Assamstadt, parts of the city Boxberg (Windischbuch) and Krautheim with water.
Krautheim has many attractions such as the Swabian castle high above Krautheim, a modern-style museum of the Johanniter, or the “cow’s ass” – a growing stream. Before the municipality reform of 1973 Krautheim belonged to the Baden part of the country, was part of the district of Buchen and contributed to the accession of the district of Hohenlohe when it joined it.
As a visitor of Krautheim and the romantic Jagst valley you move on historic ground. Built about 1220, the Swabian castle was partly destroyed during the Peasants’ War. For some time around 1240 the imperial regalia (crown, scepter, imperial orb and sword) were preserved in the early Gothic chapel. The importance of the castle at the time can be explained by the expansion of the magnificent castle, with an important early Gothic portal. The Homage Tower with a broad view over the Jagst valley, as well as the chapel of the castle courtyard are well worth visiting. For centuries Krautheim was centre of the District Office of the Archbishopric of Mainz. Goetz of Berlichingen then, early in the 16th Century, was sneaking around the castle to waylay bailiff Stumpf. This was why in 1516, below the castle, the famous Götz-quote was told, which rose by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe to immortal greeting of Götz, “he can lick my behind.” Another tip is the castle of those in Berlichingen Neunstetten, lovingly restored by Professor Maier. Worth seeing is also the former summer residence of the abbots of the Schöntal monastery in Gommersdorf, which now serves as a parsonage. Significant tourist attractions are the Jagst valley bike path, cultural hiking trail, and the paths of silence. Recently the Jacob’s foot path has been added, which leads all the way to Santiago de Compostela as a pilgrim road. Another special feature is the possibility to canoe or kayak starting in Dörzbach when the water level is high enough. You can get to Krautheim Autobahn leaving it either in Boxberg or Osterburken or via B 19 or the Jagst valley country road as well as the Autobahn junctions Widdern (West) or Kupferzell (South).

Come and visit us – you won’t be disappointed!

Andreas Köhler,
Mayor

Contact information:
City Administration Krautheim, Burgweg 5, 74238 Krautheim
Phone: +49 6294-980, Fax: +49 6294-9848
e-mail: stadt@krautheim.de
web: www.krautheim.de

Gallery

[nggallery id=8]

Be very welcome to Krautheim, the city in the valley of the storks and beavers.
